With the Green Belters developing across the year, the love grows, and we are now proud to add a fourth and crowning event to the year, on Saturday September 4th – the Redwood Creek Challenge.
We’ve expanded our standard event village set-up, allowing you to enjoy the usual free parking, free camping and the bargain-laden Rat Race Store. But this time, we’re partnering with Redwood Creek Wines - a range of great-tasting Californian wines inspired by the great outdoors and characterised by rich, bold fruit flavours.
The ‘Redwood Creek Challenge’, as the name suggests, will involve a combination of woodland and water-based activities – a fun yet challenging twist on the usual Green Belter itinerary. What better than a run, an obstacle course and some kayaking followed by a wind-down venue at sunset, with overnight camping thrown in – and all in a glorious, outdoor Home Counties location?
The woods and countryside here are beautiful and the terrain is gently undulating; it’s the makings for a very pleasurable challenge; but one not to be under-estimated. You’ll need teamwork, guts and determination. For those who show exceptional fortitude, there will be a special prize for the fastest time through the Redwood Creek Challenge zone.
So if water, ropes, obstacles and trees are your thing, this is the event for you. Open to singles and pairs, everyone gets £50 worth of gear and rewards within their entry, including a special edition Technical T-Shirt. With regular price at £45 for each individual, that’s a Belter of a package! What's more, anyone can take part and no experience of adventure events is required.
We’ll set out a fully waymarked course ahead of you. Your challenge is to follow this course to the very end, over hill and coombe, water and wall, to eventually return to the base camp. We don’t anticipate that anyone will be out for longer than three hours, while some might even crack it in two. Then, sit back and enjoy the rest of the experience – at the Redwood Creek Wine Bar at sunset.
Other on-site events and facilities include “have-a-go” summer adventure games, such as the mobile climbing tower, Tug O’ War, giant board games and more. We’ll release more details nearer the time.
Event Format
Your taste of adventure will consist of these approximate activities and distances (we will reveal more detail a month before each event):
Start Time: 14:00
- Run 1: A Mass Le Mans style 1km trail run to get you warmed up. It is all way-marked, so you need not worry about getting lost. Look out for the obstacle!
- Cycle 1: A longer 10km mission that gets you remote and adventurous in this forest estate with excellent trails and exciting singletrack sections.
- Run 2: Returning to base, there is the Redwood Creek zone to conquer before heading off to the kayaking.
- Kayaking: Not too long for the arms to fall off. The boats we use are plastic sit-on-top kayaks and are easy to paddle and great fun. You don’t need any kayaking experience and if you are a weak swimmer, don’t worry - you are wearing buoyancy aids at all times and we have safety cover in place.
- Final Run in: Once the kayaking is complete the return 5km run to base will have you dried off in no time, before you tackle the Green Machine, which is all that remains between you and the Finish Line.
